Ractopamine ELISA

Catalogue No: RT3451 (Click Here to Order)

Overview

Key Advantages:

  • Methodologies developed for a range of sample matrices
  • Deconjugation allows detection of both the ractopamine parent drug and glucuronide metabolites.
  • Rapid and simple assay format
  • Plates precoated with analyte specific antibody, reducing assay set up time.
  • Exceptional Limits of Detection

Ractopamine is a phenethanolamine belonging to a class of drugs known as β-Adrenergic agonists (beta agonists) and has been found to increase muscle growth and decrease fat deposition. Due to the nature of this group of compounds, they have a history of being used illegally, particularly by livestock producers.

Improper use of beta agonists can cause a serious risk to human health due to the residues they leave on the meat and other foodstuffs of animal origin. It is for this reason that in Europe all beta agonists are banned for use in livestock and for improving athletic performance according to EU council directive 96/22/EC.
